The RGNS.com Weather Station is located at Latitude: 34° 58' 54" N (deg min sec), 34.9817° (decimal), 3458.90N (LORAN), Longitude: 83° 24' 7" W (deg min sec), -83.4019° (decimal), 08324.11W (LORAN), on the south side of Beavert Mountain in Rabun Gap, Georgia at an elevation of 2690’ (820 meters) above sea level. The weather station is also known as KI4AKT (FCC License Number), AR956 (APRSWXNET Registration Number and MADIS ID), and KGADILLA1 (Weather Underground WX Number). Any of these may be used to identify the weather station depending on the type of network receiving data from the station and how that data is being used.
The RGNS.com Weather Station is part of the Citizen Weather Observer Program (CWOP). Every 10 minutes, data from the weather station is sent to a central server through the Automated Packet Reporting System-Internet Service (APRS-IS). The data is then sent to the Meteorological Assimilation Data Ingest System (MADIS) at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) where it is checked for accuracy and then made available to the National Weather Service (NWS), the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), public safety/service providers, and other interested parties.
The RGNS.com Weather Station is a member of the Weather Underground Data Exchange and data from the weather station is available on the Weather Underground website. The weather station sends a data packet to Weather Underground every 2.5 seconds.
The RGNS.com Weather Station is also a member of the Weather Amateur Radio Network (WARN).
The RGNS.com Weather Station is maintained by staff of volunteers under the leadership of Scott Fagan '84, a member of the American Meteorological Society (AMS) and the National Weather Association (NWA) as well as a certified National Weather Service SkyWarn™ Spotter.
